چکیده

Image magnification is a common problem in imaging applications, requiring interpolation to “read between the pixels”. Although many magnification/interpolation algorithms have been proposed in the literature, all methods must suffer to some degree the effects of imperfect reconstruction—false high-frequency content introduced by the underlying original sampling. Most often, these effects manifest themselves as jagged contours in the image. This paper presents a method for constrained smoothing of such artifacts that attempts to produce smooth reconstructions of the image’s level curves while still maintaining image fidelity. This is similar to other iterative reconstruction algorithms and to Bayesian restoration techniques, but instead of assuming a smoothness prior for the underlying intensity function it assumes smoothness of the level curves. Results show that this technique can produce images whose error properties are equivalent to the initial approximation (interpolation) used while their contour smoothness is both visually and quantitatively improved.

Performance Evaluation of FBP Reconstruction in SPECT Imaging

Introduction:  The  purpose  of  this  study  is  to  define  the  optimal  parameters  for  the  tomographic  reconstruction procedure in a routine single photon emission tomography. The Hoffman brain phantom  is modified to evaluate the reconstruction method. The phantom was imaged in a 3 and 2-dimensional  conformation and the results were compared.   Materials  and  Methods:  The  2D  phant...

Development and Evaluation of Image Reconstruction Algorithms for a Novel Desktop SPECT System

Objective (s): Various iterative reconstruction algorithms in nuclear medicine have been introduced in the last three decades. For each new imaging system, it is wise to select appropriate image reconstruction algorithms and evaluate their performance. In this study, three approaches of image reconstruction were developed for a novel desktop open-gantry SPECT system, PERSPECT, to assess their p...

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Super Resolution Using Graph-Cut

This paper addresses the problem of super resolution obtaining a single high-resolution image given a set of low resolution images which are related by small displacements. We employ reconstruction based approach using MRF-MAP formalism, and use approximate optimization using graph cuts to carry out the reconstruction. We also use the same formalism to investigate high resolution expansions fro...

Guided Signal Reconstruction Theory

An axiomatic approach to signal reconstruction is formulated, involving a sample consistent set and a guiding set, describing desired reconstructions. New frame-less reconstruction methods are proposed, based on a novel concept of a reconstruction set, defined as a shortest pathway between the sample consistent set and the guiding set. Existence and uniqueness of the reconstruction set are inve...
